GATEWAY SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION

HISTORY

In 2009 the Gateway Chamber of Commerce realized the need for scholarships and the Gateway’s Workforce Education Committee began raising funds for the new initiative. In 2012 the Chamber decided to officially establish the Gateway Scholarship Foundation, Inc as a 501(c)(3) public charity. Successfully throughout the years the Foundation continued to award a $1,000 scholarship to Union County graduating high school seniors under the specific criteria. In 2018 the Gateway Workforce offered a mentorship program for the recipients. Currently the Gateway Chamber supports the foundation by managing events, scholarship receptions and fundraising efforts.

OUR GOAL

The goal is to foster a well-qualified future workforce and support the training and development of local employees by awarding individuals such as graduating seniors or young adults who plan to enter an accredited trade program or pursue a certificate or degree in a wide range of programs. In 2024, the Foundation will award less students and increase the award to $5,000. While also incorporating a new $1,000 scholarship for non-traditional students who have already graduated from high school and are going into trade programs.
